3.1 Constant Pool

The constant pool is a table, whose items are referenced by indexes from within the bytecode and from other items of the class file. Each table item is one of the following:

• class name
• field reference
• method reference
• interface method reference
• string reference
• integer
• float
• long integer (next constant pool entry must be valid but unusable)
• double float (next constant pool entry must be valid but unusable)
• name and type of a method or field
• UTF8 character string
